How old do you need to be to attend a CoderDojo?
Generally, our sessions are open from 7 to 17 year olds. However, each club and workshop might be aimed at a specific age group (for example, in Glasgow most of our workshops are aimed at 12 to 17 year olds). Check the details on Our Clubs page for the club you are interested in.
What is the cost to take part in a workshop?
There is no charge. CoderDojo sessions are free for young people.
Do you offer courses for adults?
At the moment, no.
Do I have to bring a laptop?
Many of our clubs have their on PCs or Laptops available to use on a first come first served basis but you are welcome to bring your own. Please check the details of your club on Our Clubs page to see what is required.
If you do bring your own laptop/netbook (or have a friend who is willing to share – pair programming woo!) make sure your laptop is fully charged (or bring a cable!). At CoderDojo Scotland we are open minded, so we don’t mind if it’s a Windows, Mac or Linux machine.
How can I volunteer to mentor at a CoderDojo?
That’s great you wan’t to help! Have a read of our Volunteers page to see what’s involved then contact the club or clubs you would like to help at.
I can’t find a Dojo in my area! If there is not a Dojo near you then why not become a Champion and start one yourself!
Can I start my own CoderDojo?
Absolutely! CoderDojos have been started across the world by parents, tech/computer people, teachers, librarians, organisations and even the young people themselves. You need a venue in a public space with good WiFi and a ‘Champion’ to organise it and co-ordinate volunteers. And you don’t need to be a computer expert to organise a club! Go here to find out more and verify your club.
Once you have verified your club please get in touch through our Contact Form below and we’ll add you to the network.
If you can’t see the answer to your question on our website feel free to drop us a message below. The contact centre is looked after by occasional volunteers so please contact your club directly if you have a specific question. All our clubs’ contact information can be found on Our Clubs page.
